Back when I was a kid and would visit my my cousins in the summer


on their farm in Chilhowie VA they didn't have running water. After hauling water in buckets up the hill from the hand pump to the house, my Aunt would then heat the water on her stove and pour it in the bathtub, adding cold water till it was reasonably warm. Three or four of us would then take our turns taking a bath in the same water.
